Shifting to San Pedro Bay, Leyte, at the end of June, the battleship reached her destination on July 1, escorted by Connolly (DE-306). There, on the morning of July 5, she received her first draft of replacements since Pearl Harbor in 1944. After loading ammunition, West Virginia commenced training in the Philippine area, an activity she carried out through the end of July.
